Aduma mask. 60 cm high.See if my other Fang Mask is still available.
The Adouma (or Aduma) are an ethnic group of Gabon, in Africa,
Upper Ogooué. They primarily live on the south bank of the upper Ogowe River, in the
vicinity of Lastoursville (originally an Adouma village ) This fine mask is coming from missionaries in the Netherlands it was collected by them in 1954. I was told this type of mask was used in the Ngoye society made of village chiefs My opinion is that this Aduma mask is to be dated between 1910-1930's, maybe older. Price on request. This remarkable mask is not so flat as the usual Aduma masks found on the market and copied from the books. It is 22 cm depth. It is a polychrome mask. The Aduma masks have been used for celebratory dances associated with the spirits of the forest and major social rituals for decades.
this is a end XIXth century Adouma mask - Musée de l'Homme
