A Bamana puppet

Acquired by Dr. Breughelmans, Antwerp in the 1970's.
This real old Bamana puppet is early XXth in wood and has a janus face.
Size: 103 cm heigh, and has three small puppets that can be inserted in the side holes. The biggest small one is 28 cm.
These puppets where used during theatrical performances.to entertain or to bring social changes during the "Cheko" ceremony from the Bamana.
They are used to tell story's that is also the reason some part are removable.
The more recent ones are usually painted.
