Dan Toma mask, Guinea

Provenance: I got this mask from an old lady who bought on the Sablon - rue des Minimes in Brussels in the early 1970's, but she didn't remember the name of the gallery.

Anyhow the style and patina shows this is a clear old Dan Toma mask end XIXth early XXth. The monkey skin on the beard is missing it's hair, only the skin remains.

According to Pierron Primitive Arts -a field collector - this mask should be attributed to the Gbandi-Loma from  Libéria or Toma of Guinea instead...
