Dear Collector,
Please find attached the images of the genuine Fang-Mitsogho Mask, central Ogoué mask I have at this moment.
This mask is 32 cm high (12 1/4 in.) and has clearly all signs of authenticity. It is light wood in "bois de fromager" and has an old dry patina.
The ovale face has very fine carved eybrows, and the hairdress is in 7 parts.
White kaolin and black pigments.
This mask has an old etiquette in the back, describing it as Fang, but it has strong influence of the Mitshogo.
It is coming from the private collection of H.Marc Moyens who is mainly known for his surrealistic paintings collection (Salvator Dali, etc...). He was in Washington in 1946 when he began collecting African Art.
He also collected paintings, sculptures, and more, and was also exhibiting artists from the Washington area.He died in 2003 aged 83. He was a big collector mainly from surrealist art and had a large African Art collection with good pieces, many in Museums.
It is very difficult to find genuine masks from Gabon. I am very happy to have been able to get this one.

I was proposed this Fang mask two years ago at Sotheby's, it sold for 45,000 €, it was without provenance .
Most Fang mask proposed at auctions last years had results between 140,000 € and 6,000.000 €.
