A fine and old Luba for sale

Sculpture and associated arts > Central Africa > Congo
(Kinshasa) and Congo (Brazzaville) > Luba cultural area
Although the history of the Luba people (southeastern Congo [Kinshasa]) is
one of violence and warfare, their artistic style is characterized by harmonious
integration of organically related forms. Female figures are carved more often
than male figures. Some are freestanding, almost always in a frontal position
with their hands on their breasts; others are kneeling.
This old and fine Luba figure with nice expression, fine scarifications, and
interesting hair dress, is now property of a Parisian collector, it was
originally in a German collection a long time ago, then being in my mother's
collection, it is now in a Parisian collection the owner asked me to find a new
home for it, maybe you ?
The grain of the wood is beginning to be exposed, with
ridges forming along the growth rings on the face, this is a very good sign of
age in African sculptures. It is a very old piece with some damages, but it has
a very fine expression.
